NOTE:  This year saw residents turn out in large numbers to  support neighborhoods impacted by development.  Three  of those projects are mentioned in this article and many believe impacted the election of three new faces to the Town Council in May, 2015.  Regarding Bob White Lane , the resident was again surprised with the presenting of new information in a public meeting, rather than be contacted beforehand.

FM Council moves forward with:

     -  Sagebrush improvement project

     -   Highland Court

     -   Bob White Lane (SPA 2)

Sagebrush

The Flower Mound Town Council on Monday awarded the construction project for the Sagebrush Drive improvements to CD Builders, Inc. in the amount of $2.4 million.

Sagebrush is a two-lane asphalt road with no curb and no sidewalks. Residents have complained about the road's safety for years, in part because it serves as a vehicle and pedestrian route for children and adults going to Flower Mound High School.

The project will keep Sagebrush a two-lane road but will slightly widen each lane. It will add curbs and 5-foot sidewalks on the north and south sides of the road. It will also add medians at various points throughout the segment with varying width, meaning the full width of the road will range from 28 feet without medians to up to 42 feet in spots where the median bulbs out. The medians are designed to calm traffic speed.

Another component is the addition of a third lane at the intersections of Old Settlers and FM 2499, thus providing a right-hand turn lane and a left-hand turn lane at both ends.

The project is expected to begin June 8 and should be complete in September 2016. There will be a period between           June 15 through Aug. 17 where the road will be shut down.

Highland Court

The council also approved a development plan for Highland Court, a 33-acre residential development located along Rippy Road, west of FM 2499.

The project is expected to contain 97 single-family homes on medium- and high-density property.

In addition, the council accepted cash in the amount of $215,071 in lieu of park land. It also accepted $143,636 in park development fees.

Bob White Lane

The council tabled a vote to amend the access standards for Specific Plan Area (SPA) 2 to address the Bob White Lane public access and utility and sidewalk easements.

The council had entered into an agreement with property owner Janvier Gentry Scott to purchase 0.122 acres of public access and utility easement and a 0.024-acre public access and sidewalk easement for future completion of a spine road west of FM 2499. It would connect Firewheel Drive and Sagebrush.

Scott requested the council table the item so she could review new information on the matter.
